"Mr. Percival S. Witherspoon, noted inventor of the self-buttering crumpet, poses here in his prime. The peculiar protrusions are not, as rumour suggested, the result of an unfortunate incident at the Portsmouth Snail Racing Derby, but rather a natural adaptation to his preferred breakfast: tea, toast, and a light misting of garden dew. His memoir, Life at a Slug’s Pace, was widely panned for taking seven years to reach the second chapter."
