Thaddeus B. Crumplehorn was known throughout the Midwest as “that fella what looks like he’s about to stampede through the wallpaper.” Born under a waxing gibbous and a cursed umbrella, Thaddeus developed what experts referred to as Hornular Maximus Syndrome, a condition affecting only 1 in 7,000 vaudeville ushers.

Despite his intimidating visage, Thaddeus was deeply gentle—fond of wildflowers, classical piano, and sobbing softly at sunsets. Unfortunately, his horn had a mind of its own and often knocked over gramophones, startled clergy, and once skewered an entire basket of dinner rolls during a cotillion.

He was briefly engaged to a contortionist named Ophelia “Elbow Marie,” but the relationship ended when her parents refused to bless a union with someone who could not wear masks discreetly.

This portrait was commissioned by the American Association for Cephalic Oddities, who dubbed him “Handsomely Horned and Mildly Confused.”
