Bug Ladies
Miss Thistlethorpe and Miss Bramblebottom were not technically sisters, but rather bonded by pheromonal oath in the Great Garden Gala of 1883. Born from the noble Hive of Pratt, Kansas, these two made quite a name for themselves on the Victorian debutante circuit—elegant, mysterious, and always politely declining cucumber sandwiches.
Their social calendar was abuzz (pun absolutely intended), filled with moonlit strolls through botanical conservatories and the occasional whispered diplomacy between insect factions. No one dared question their origins, lest they awaken The Queen.
They spoke rarely, but when they did, their voices sounded like wind through dry leaves and were always in perfect unison. Rumors claimed they could read minds, lay hexes, or pollinate envy itself—but most agreed they were simply too fashionable to question.
This portrait was taken on the eve of the Entomological Cotillion, shortly before they vanished in a burst of pollen and the scent of violets. Only their gloves remained… and one impeccably carved leaf brooch, still warm to the touch.
