He introduced himself only as Eustace. No surname. No explanation. Just a steady psychic thrum and a business card that smelled faintly of ozone and licorice.

Hailing from what he described as “the damp quadrant of an unspoken dimension,” Eustace made quite the impression on Chicago’s high society. With a cranium resembling a coral reef full of secrets and a handshake that felt like both silk and jellyfish, he quickly became a fixture at galas, salons, and transdimensional summits.

No one knew exactly what he did—but rumors swirled. Some said he was a consciousness farmer. Others claimed he was here on a gentleman’s agreement to “observe politely and not assimilate anything important.”

He was courteous, punctual, and always arrived wearing a flawlessly tailored suit (no one could determine how it was fastened). At one particularly memorable garden party, he played the harpsichord without touching it and recited a love poem in a language that made all the tulips bow.

This portrait was commissioned just before he returned to the stars—or possibly the produce section of a sentient dimension. Either way, he left behind a single tentacle handshake and a cryptic note:
“Tell Gertrude the muffins were perfect.”
