We are currently hiring for Seasonal Customer Service Associates. Please send resume and 2 work related references to jobs@Peculiarium.com. We have a very small staff, so it may take up to a few weeks to hear back. Seasonal employment is May 1 through October 31.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Part time employees (students and recent grads are encouraged to apply!) Max hours for this position: 25hrs/week
- MUST be available to work at least one weekend day
- Possesses excellent customer service skills, including a sense of humor and the ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment
- Able to work a flexible schedule to support business needs
- Possesses strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Capable of multi-tasking
- Able to operate a point-of-sale system and access/navigate online scheduling and communication tools
- Able to respond appropriately to changes in direction or unexpected situations
- Capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 25lbs) with or without reasonable accommodation
- Works effectively with peers and supervisors
- Retail customer experience preferred

- Artists who think this is an arts job. It’s mostly a cleaning job
- People looking for full time employment. This position is part time only
- People who are unwilling to engage in friendly small talk
- People who don’t know anything about Portland or dislike Portland – We are Portland ambassadors
- A creative business partner. Got enough of those, thanks
- People who are superstitious, squeamish and/or frightened of movie props & fake gore, or of being alone in the Peculiarium
- People who really don’t like or aren’t good at cleaning. Did we mention it’s mostly a cleaning job?
- People who consistently need weekends and bank holidays off. This is when we are the busiest
- People who aren’t decent to their co-workers

This position has a starting pay range of $15.95 to $16.50 per hour.
Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.

Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:
- Learning and following the guidelines set in the Standard Operating Procedures manual
- Properly and accurately scanning and counting items to avoid mistakes at checkout or during inventory counts
- Straightening shelves, displays, and products, and ensuring labels, price tags, and informational signs are attractive, uniform, neat, and accurate
- Cleaning bathrooms, sweeping/mopping floors, dusting & cleaning exhibits, cleaning/sanitizing countertops
- Restocking items on the sales floor before they are sold out
- Picking up and putting away items left in incorrect places by customers
- Being observant on the sales floor to prevent shoplifting
- Walking through the Museum frequently to ensure the safety, correct operation, and cleanliness of the exhibits and artwork, and ensuring that visitors are behaving appropriately
- Taking initiative to find things to work on when it’s slow (there is ALWAYS something to work on), and being readily available to help visitors when it’s busy
- Appropriately answering visitors’ questions and asking management if you don’t know the answer.
- Reporting any suspicious activity or issues with inventory to management
- Following protocols for handling and disposing of damaged or expired products correctly
- Willingness and ability to cross train in Production, Deep Cleaning, Events, Marketing and Promotion, Administrative Projects, and other tasks as requested.
- Documenting any Accident or Incident inside or outside the Museum and informing management the same day
- Informing management when inventory items (gift shop products), janitorial supplies (TP, paper towels, air filters, cleaning products, etc.) and retail counter items (shopping bags, price stickers, receipt tape, promotional items, etc.) are low, damaged, or missing.
